Audition for Let The Right One In

Theatre In The Park announces video auditions for Jack Thorne's Let the Right One In directed by Ira David Wood IV. Use the form at the bottom of the page to submit your audition. Submissions are due Monday, August 29.

About the Play

Oskar is a bullied, lonely teenage boy living with his mother on a housing estate at the edge of town when a spate of sinister killings rock the neighborhood. Eli is the young girl who has just moved in next door. She doesn’t go to school and never leaves the flat by day. Sensing in each other a kindred spirit, the two become devoted friends. What Oskar doesn’t know is that Eli has been a teenager for a very long time. An enchanting, brutal vampire myth and coming-of-age love story adapted from the bestselling novel and award-winning film.

Please note this show contains very mature language and adult themes.

What to Prepare

Please prepare a dramatic monologue, no more than 3 minutes long. Please slate name, age, height, and any conflicts prior to your monologue. (Several roles may be double cast),

For those auditioning for Oskar and or Eli, please prepare a separate video of the two sides below in addition to your dramatic monologue. Please note the sides contain mature language.

Eli Oskar Side 2

Character Breakdowns

We are casting for the following roles, ages 15 and up.

  • Oskar: Oskar is a young boy who suffers from bullying at school and a negative self-image. Oskar steals to feel better about himself, as stealing means he is good at something. Oskar likes macabre stories so much that he keeps an album of newspaper clippings about horrific events. He also plays a game where he stabs trees in the forest and pretends that they are his bullies. Oskar’s stealing, and his obsession with death, suggest that things might not go well for Oskar if he doesn’t soon find an outlet for his frustration.
  • Eli: Is a centuries old vampire. The performer cast will need to portray a very old soul. Eli is quiet and withdrawn but with an ageless self-assurance. They have a longing for emotional connection.
  • Hakan: Haken acts as a protective "father" figure to Eli. With a dark purpose…Killing other people to collect blood to feed her.
  • Johnny: A classic school bully. Enjoys making Oskar’s life miserable. Not really a nice person.
  • Jimmy: Walking testosterone. The bully to end all bullies. Even scarier than Jonny
  • Micke: Jonny’s sidekick. Joins in bullying Oskar, but with less relish than Jonny.
  • Kurt: A world-weary sweetshop owner who doesn’t really have much time for annoying children, but still looks out for Oskar a little and regards him with sympathy.
  • Police Commissioner Halmberg: Policeman, thoroughly perplexed by the goings-on but trying his best to keep everyone safe and calm.
  • Mum: Long-suffering alcoholic. Most likely loves Oskar and is well-meaning but struggles with looking after him and resents his father’s post-divorce lack of involvement in his life.
  • Jocke: Drunken townsperson
  • Mr. Avila: Gym teacher at Oskar’s school
  • Nils: Hospital receptionist
  • Dad: Oskar’s dad
  • Janne: Oskar’s dad’s girlfriend
  • Stefan: Train Conductor
  • Torkel: Local townsperson
